2009 Jorian Hill BEEspoke Blend Inspired by the wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this blend highlights prized lots of estate-grown Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre to achieve a layered expression of Jorian Hill winemaking. Aromatically, it shows off all three varietals, wrapping Syrah's dark berry richness and Grenache's vibrant red fruit in a leather jacket of Mourvèdre. On the palate, it displays lovely pomegranate, raspberry and strawberry elements, as well as darker fruit notes and a dash of Mourvèdre's spice. Excellent acidity, youthful, chewy tannins and a streak of minerality add structure and sophistication that bodes well for long-term aging.2009 Jorian Hill Syrah Syrah from the Central Coast never has a problem with color and this wine is no exception. It shows a youthful dark purple core with a beautiful rich raspberry rim. Aromatically pleasing, it offers juicy blackberry and raspberry jam notes as well as hints of smokiness and pepper. On the palate, this Syrah shows lush, mouthcoating flavors of bright cherry and raspberry. A subtle impression of sweet French oak is nicely balanced by crisp acidity and youthful, chalky tannins. Though drinking beautifully now, this Syrah has the depth and structure to age gracefully for many years.2009 Jorian Hill Viognier Santa Ynez Valley The majority of Jorian Hill's Viognier vines were planted in 1999. These hillside-grown vines are from the coveted Alban field select clone, planted on vigor-reducing 1103 P rootstock using Geneva double-curtain trellising. Jorian Hill also has a small section of more youthful Alban Viognier vines grown using vertical trellising, which reduces overall sun exposure. All vines are tended by hand and farmed using sustainable, chemical-free viticultural techniques. Adding to the character of Jorian Hill’s Viognier, the vineyard’s unique microclimate produces grapes with excellent, food-friendly acidity and low pH levels. The 2009 Viognier begins with dramatic aromatics of honeysuckle, citrus blossom, melon and white peaches, with a clear note of flinty minerality that adds depth and sophistication to the nose. On the palate, stone fruit flavors of peach and apricot dominate, underscored by more nuanced layers of citrus and wet slate. The addition of a small amount of fruit from the more sun-protected and youthful vines in 2009 has added to the wine’s bright aromatics and refreshing acidity, making it an ideal food wine. 2007 Jorian Hill Reserve Syrah Only 218 cases of Jorian Hill's inaugural 2007 Reserve Syrah were produced. This wine reflects a true "barrel selection," highlighting the estate's most complex and concentrated lots of Syrah. From the moment this wine hits the glass, displaying a beautiful, near-opaque purple color, it presents itself as a rich and serious Syrah. The bouquet matches the color, offering abundant dark berry fruit, pepper, cocoa and espresso bean layers, with an added hint of sweet French oak rounding out the intense aromatics. On the palate, this wine is big, full-bodied and viscous, with blueberry and blackberry fruit dominating. These powerful fruit elements are underscored by notes of cassis, coffee, spice, and a dark earthiness that segues to a complex and intriguing finish. Possessing a solid structure of tannin and acid, this wine should age gracefully for up to a decade. 2009 Jorian Hill "Hope Springs Eternal" Rosé Santa Ynez Valley This wine reflects a careful selection of our Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre lots most suited to creating a bright, floral rosé with excellent purity of fruit. Practically speaking, this means that these lots generally came in with lower sugar, higher acids and lower pH, qualities that reinforce the lithe and lively character of a great rosé.We think this is the best rosé we have ever made. In the glass, this enticing wine is the vibrant bright-pink color of a fresh cut watermelon. From this inviting starting point, the wine reveals lovely layers of ripe summer strawberries, cool wet stone, sandalwood and saltwater taffy. In 2009, we added a small amount of Mourvèdre to our Syrah and Grenache rosé lots to add color, complexity and structure. The result is a wine that has both depth and lightness, with sweet fruit, mouthwatering acidity and a mineral snap. SOLD OUT
